"In The Salem World of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Margaret Moore comments upon Hawthorne's sympathy toward and admiration of women, as shown in his treatment of Hester Prynne. " ~Anonymous "Ah, let her cover the mark as she will, the pang of it will always be in her heart" ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne The Scarlet Letter Chapter 2
"The Scarlet Letter is a wonderful piece of literary work. It is a wonderful reading experience that held on to my interest through unanticipated events. The variety of characters in this novel helped construct a setting that would give a creepy feeling to any reader. The Scarlet Letter is wonderfully written and does not require any changes and meets all expectations by providing an incomparable window into the life of a Puritan sinner. Not enjoying this novel would be a sin in itself, perhaps requiring The Scarlet Letter for punishment." ~ Anonymous, taken from essayanswers.com "Thou shalt forgive me!' cried Hester"~ Nathaniel Hawthorne The Scarlet Letter Chapter 17
"The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is probably his best known work." ~ Taken from chrisbookarama.com "What evil have I done the man?' asked Roger Chillingworth" ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne The Scarlet Letter Chapter 14
"The Scarlet Letter was the first, and the tendency of criticism is to pronounce it the most impressive, also, of these ampler productions. It has the charm of unconsciousness; the author did not realize while he worked, that this "most prolix among tales" was alive with the miraculous vitality of genius." ~ Julian Hawthorne Quote 1: I chose this quote because it shows how if you do something wrong, no one might ever find out, but it will always be on your mind. Just because others don't know doesn't mean it won't bother you. When you know something is wrong, it will be on your conscious if you don't tell anyone.
Quote 2: This quote shows that everyone wants forgiven. If someone does something wrong all they want is forgiveness. It they aren't forgiven they feel upset, and they won't forgive themselves. Quote 3: This quote is showing Roger lying. He knows what he did was wrong, but he won't admit it because he wants to be liked by others in the community.
